Full Frame Documentary Film Festival's 17th year was another large success for Durham
6/12/2014: .

The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival announces another year of tremendous growth. The 2014 festival, its 17th, drew record attendance. The annual four-day festival (April 3-6, 2014) yielded $2,400,000 for the local economy. The event also generated $96,000 in tax revenue for the city of Durham according to the Durham Convention and Visitors Bureau, an increase of $12,000 from 2013. “Once again Full Frame delivers…a great experience for their audiences…an outstanding setting for their filmmakers…and impressive economic results for Durham,” said Shelly Green, Durham Convention and Visitors Bureau CEO, “What’s not to love about this festival?” Festival organizers report an overall increase in attendees, hosting over 12,000 patrons and selling out a record 48 events.

Full Frame Director, Deirdre Haj, said, “This was an amazing year with 80 percent of all seats filled. Even at our free outdoor screenings, we saw hundreds of people come out to watch documentaries. We are so grateful to the filmmakers and the audience for continuing to make this four-day event so impactful for our community.”

The 2014 festival presented 89 films, including six titles as part of the Full Frame Tribute to director Steve James, 12 Thematic Program titles, 48 NEW DOCS films in the competitive program, and 23 titles in the Invited Program. Of the documentaries screened, 14 were World Premieres, 11 were North American Premieres, and two were U.S. Premieres. Thirty foreign titles from 25 different countries were screened, and 63 of the 89 films shown had filmmakers, subjects, or representatives in attendance.

Full Frame is a qualifying festival in the Documentary Short Subject category of the Annual Academy Awards®, and a qualifying event for the Producers Guild of America Awards.

Earlier this year, Full Frame announced The Full Frame Road Show presented by PNC, an initiative that enables Full Frame to expand the reach of its year-round programming. Full Frame is presenting two free screenings in June, both part of The Full Frame Road Show. MUSCLE SHOALS, a fan favorite from the 2013 festival, will screen twice in June: at the Full Frame Theater on June 20 at 7:30 pm, as part of downtown Durham’s Third Friday Gallery Walk, and at outdoor City Plaza in downtown Raleigh on June 27 at sunset, as part of PNC’s Downtown Raleigh Movie Series. More information on the screenings is available at www.fullframefest.org.

The 18th Annual Full Frame Documentary Film Festival will be held April 9-12, 2015, in Durham, N.C., with Duke University as the presenting sponsor.
