Durham Arts Council relaunches successful campaign with VivaHub
3/12/2013: .

Last spring, the Durham Arts Council partnered with a new tech startup in Durham, VivaHub.com, to pilot VivaHub.com's online platform that partners local merchants with nonprofits to drive business and generate philanthropic support and community engagement at the same time. That single-campaign pilot successfully drove more than $23,000 in revenue to the six participating local restaurants and raised more than $5,000 to support the Durham Arts Council, exceeding its goal.

More than half of the 224 supporters from that single campaign had not previously supported the Durham Arts Council, proving that VivaHub succeeded in both fundraising and increasing the audience and awareness for the nonprofit organization. Following its successful pilot with VivaHub.com, the Durham Arts Council will be helping re-introduce VivaHub.com, which will be accepting other nonprofits to join the socially impacting, crowd-funding platform.

The relaunched platform includes the “Fine Art of Durham Dining and Living – Spring 2013” campaign featuring nine top Durham merchants, including 604 at West Village, Alley Twenty Six, Beauty and the Bull Spa, Bella Bean Organics, Mt. Fuji Asian Bistro and Sushi, Pop's Trattoria, Ristorante Vita, Taberna Tapas, and The Pizzeria. The campaign sales window will be now through March 29, and offers feature discounts of up to 50 percent off at participating merchants. Up to 50 percent of the proceeds from purchased offers will be donated to the Durham Arts Council during the campaign.

The web-based platform, created by Durham entrepreneur and Durham Arts Council board member Todd Atlas, contains features that allow a user to purchase a merchant's offer online, and Viva Hub instantly directs a portion of the purchase price to the fundraising cause. Viva Hub also allows merchants far more flexibility in constructing their offers and deal terms than other deal platforms in the market.

“It is wonderful to be a part of relaunching VivaHub,” says Sherry DeVries, executive director of the Durham Arts Council. “While our campaign will again support the Durham Arts Council, we are excited to see this wonderful platform proliferate and begin to support other nonprofits and businesses in our community.”
