NCSA announces statewide strawberry video contest
5/1/2012: .

The North Carolina Strawberry Association (NCSA) invites the public to capture on video their love of strawberries and the strawberry experience for its video contest. Hundred-dollar gift cards will be awarded to winning entries, along with the chance for videos to go viral on the N.C. Strawberry Association's YouTube channel.

"North Carolina strawberries are a beautiful, tasty and fun subject matter to capture on video. Whether from your smartphone, digital camera or camcorder, we want your videos to post and share on the N.C. Strawberry YouTube channel," says Debby Wechsler of the NCSA. "North Carolina is one of the top three strawberry-producing areas in the nation, and this video contest represents an entertaining way to bring attention to our state's bountiful crop."

Contest participants will make short videos that show the importance of choosing locally grown North Carolina strawberries. They can create a two- to three-minute video that captures different aspects of North Carolina strawberries - picking, eating, buying and using them in creative ways.

A panel of judges will decide the winning video in each category. The contest categories are:

  • TV commercial: A 30-second or 60-second advertisement promoting N.C. Strawberries
  • Your visit to a North Carolina strawberry farm
  • Using North Carolina Strawberries
  • Other: A video submission that does not fit into any other category
  • Strawberry production: Any aspect of planting, tending or harvesting commercial platiculture strawberries

Submissions for the first four video categories are due June 30, while Strawberry production category submissions are due Oct. 15. In order for a submitted video to be considered, the contestant must first subscribe to the NCSA's YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/ncstrawberry.
