Durham’s Hope Valley works to keep its historical roots

In 1926, the developers of Durham’s Hope Valley neighborhood ran an advertisement asking potential homebuyers to “think of the character of the community which has already been definitely and permanently established.” That character — an ambience of English countryside set six miles from both Durham and Chapel Hill — still exists today, though it’s by no means permanent.
